Jerry Dean Rathgeber was born December 9, 1960 in Kiowa, Kansas; second born son of Benny M. and Virginia (Miller) Rathgeber.

In 1982, Jerry was united in marriage with Brenda Kay Smith in Anthony, Kansas. Their union was blessed with two children: Natasha and Tyler.

Jerry enjoyed many of life's splendors, but of these, his family was his greatest love. Jerry lived with an unshakeable loyalty and determination to be the most loving, caring, and supportive husband, father, and grandfather he could be. Jerry was an avid fisherman, amazing cook, and world class friend to those that were lucky enough to know him.

Jerry worked as a trackman for the Santa Fe Railroad for over 30 years before retiring in November of 2014. Over the next couple of years, he and Brenda enjoyed many camping trips to various parks and lakes, but soon fell in love with the Grand Lake area and way of life. In 2016 Jerry and Brenda made the decision to follow their dreams, and made the move to become permanent residents of Grand Lake, moving to Cleora, Oklahoma.

On August 17, 2019, Jerry unexpectedly passed away while vacationing with his wife and several close friends in Berryville, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda; children: Natasha Mueller and Tyler Rathgeber and wife, Becca; grandchildren: Abigail, Adrienne, Aiden, Austen, and Zakk; his brother, David and wife, Theresa; nephew, Josh Rathgeber and wife Dedra; his in-laws, Betty and Bill Benson and Ronald Smith; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

A celebration of life will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony, Kansas. Casual dress is encouraged. A reception will follow the service for family and friends.

Flowers are appreciated but instead fill your boat with gas, grab your poles and take your family fishing. Jerry would like that.
