Jerry Dee Connell was born July 18, 1928 in Anthony, Kansas, son of John Cecil "Pete" and Zelma Marie (Allen) Connell. He graduated from Anthony High School with the Class of 1947. He then attended Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma.
On July 26, 1949, Jerry was united in marriage with Bonnie Belle Snodgrass in Anthony, Kansas. This union was blessed with two children: Michael and Sherri.
In his early years, Jerry worked for Ed Toler in the John Deere Implement Business and for Jarvis Auto Supply. He then purchased Meador Hardware, naming it Anthony Hardware, which he ran with the assistance of Bonnie. He also had sideline business ventures with a custom hay bailing and hauling business and as a representative and delivery man for EFD freight. Before retiring, Jerry worked for USD #361 as a bus driver and a custodian.
Jerry and Bonnie were members of the Anthony Christian Church, where Bonnie's father ministered for years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and served on the Chamber of Commerce Board when he owned the hardware store. He enjoyed golf, bowling and hunting with his bird dogs.
On April 23, 2017, Jerry passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 5 days. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie on October 23, 2013 and his parents.
Jerry will be deeply missed by his children: Michael A. Connell and wife, Jeannie, and Sherri Miller and husband, Brad; grandchildren: Michael E. Connell, Gerald Mack Connell, Andrew A. Connell and wife, Jessica, Kelby Connell, Keegan Miller and fiancé, Samantha, and Hayley Miller; 2 great-grandchildren: Andrew D. and Saydie Connell; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
Cremation has taken place and the family will be holding a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Forest Park Cemetery in Anthony.
Friends may sign the register 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at Prairie Rose in Anthony.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Anthony Senior Citizens and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
