Jennie Lee Seyfert went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on August 27, 2017 at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital. She was born in Sterling, Kansas to Walter John and Gladys Marie (Dunham) Waldschmidt on May 20, 1931. Jennie was the youngest child of this union, with three older siblings; Walter H., Robert H., and Helen G. Her mother passed away of cancer on May 10, 1940. On December 27, 1944, her Dad married Helen F. Donica and Jennie then became the oldest of three step-brothers, Danny R., Phillip R., and James E. Donica.
Jennie worked hard at a young age washing dishes in a cook shack for harvesters. During her high school years she worked at the Sweet Shop in Anthony, Kansas. She graduated from Anthony High School in 1949. On June 9, 1950, she married Horace Lee Van Ranken and to this union five children were born; Howard Dean, Douglas Ray, Ronald Lee, Anita Darlene, and Roger Glenn. They owned and operated a dairy near Waldron, Kansas and later moved the dairy to near Isabel, Kansas. She took on a part-time job at Nixon's Dress Shop in Medicine Lodge until the dairy was sold. She finished her working career at the Barber County Appraiser's Office where she was the Deputy Appraiser, retiring in 2000.
On July 24, 1999, Jennie married William Seyfert in Anthony, Kansas. They made their home in Medicine Lodge. Jennie was a loving wife, mother, and friend who always greeted everyone with the most Beautiful Smile. She will fondly be remembered as a fabulous cook and baker with enough to feed any neighbor who happened to stop by at meal time. She was a member of the First Christian Church.
Jennie is survived by her children: Howard (Loretta) Van Ranken of Chandler, AZ; Doug (Cindy) Van Ranken of Andover, Kansas; Ron (Cindy) Van Ranken of Big Piney, WY; Anita (Pat) Bedwell of Lake City, KS; and Roger (Tonia) Van Ranken of Medicine Lodge, KS; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; step-brother, Dan R. Donica; her extended Seyfert family and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings; husbands, Horace and Bill, and a great-granddaughter, Betsy Jean Van Ranken.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 10:30 am at the First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge, KS with Pastor Tom Walters presiding. Interment will follow at the Isabel Cemetery, Isabel, KS.
Suggested memorials include: First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital, or St. Jude Children's Hospital and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
