Obituary

Jeanne Kastens was born May 11, 1932 in Denver, Colorado, daughter of Arthur O. and Fayetta May (Rhoads) Johnson.  She graduated from Anthony High School with the Class of 1950.

On September 6, 1952, Jeanne married her high school sweetheart, Howard Lee Kastens at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Anthony.  This union was blessed with five children:  Mark, Diane, Carol, Tony, and Mike.

Jeanne worked for Max Hall Law Firm until the birth of her first child.  She then became a homemaker and farm wife.  When her youngest child started school, Jeanne began her career as a special ed para, working at Anthony Elementary School until her retirement.

Jeanne was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, of the St. Joan of Arc Parish.  She was active in the Altar Guild for many years. She was always willing to help whenever she could in her community.  She enjoyed her time in the local sorority and volunteering at the Anthony Thrift Store.  Throughout the years she served in other aspects of community service. She became one of the Ladies of the Round Table, gathering daily at Irwin-Potter to socialize.  An avid reader, she could often be found buried in a book.

Jeanne was a truly devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She and Howard were dedicated to one another and made an outstanding team raising their family and running the farming operation. Her dedication to her children, their education, and their activities, was always a top priority in her life.  She continued showing her love and dedication to her growing family with the birth of each grandchild and great-grandchild.  There was no doubt that Grandma Jeanne was one of their biggest supporters.

On January 25, 2023, Jeanne passed away at Anthony Community Care Center at the age of 90.  She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Louvelma Osborn; and grandsons, David Headberg and Tyge Walker.

Jeanne will be deeply missed by her husband, Howard Lee Kastens; children:  Mark Kastens (JoAnn Wright), Diane Headberg (Jeff), Carol Flaming (Carey), Tony Kastens (Cecilia), and Mike Kastens (Linda); grandchildren:  Justin (Allison) Kastens, Kara (Brian) Moore, Cyndra Kastens, Heather (Jamie) McGuigan, Cassie (Donavon) Turner, Chelsea (Corey Sheesley) Flaming, Reagan (Clay) Shelton, Nicole (Jeremy) Sheffler, Kate (Sam) Moylan, Lainey (Blake) Bontrager; 16 great-grandchildren; other relatives; and many friends.

Per Jeanne's request the family will be holding a private Mass of Christian Burial.

Friends may sign Jeanne's register from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. February 3, 2023 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Anthony Community Care Center, Country Living Inc., or Country Care Hospice, and can be sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 602 E. Main St., Anthony, KS 67003.
