Jay McDaniel was born January 6, 1933 in Loraine, Texas to James and Christine Smith McDaniel.
Jay married Karuth on November 19, 1962 in Anthony, Kansas at the Congregational Church and together they raised nine children.
Jay was a hard worker and never missed a day of work. He was a skilled mechanic, contractor, plumber, and electrician and overall handyman. There were not many things he could not fix, patch, or repair. These skills were used for several years working for the Cleveland family at their dry cleaning store in Anthony. Jay left the cleaners and went to work at Chaparral High School for seven years where he retired as a custodian. After retiring from the school district Jay went on to work for part-time for Harper County and part-time for the Anthony Public Library.
On March 5, 2022, with his wife Karuth and daughter Marilyn at his side, Jay passed away at the age of 89, in the Patterson Health Center. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine; son James; sisters: Velma, Geraldine, Ada, Ivan, and Dolly; and brother, Norman.
Jay will be missed by his wife, Karuth; daughters; Marilyn and husband Darryl, Myrtle and husband Anson, Ernestine, and Mildred; sons: Jessie, Eddie, and Gregory; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Private family services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to Susan G Komen for the Cure and sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 602 E. Main St., Anthony, KS 67003.
The family of Jay McDaniel wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at Patterson Health Center.
