Janie Lou Porter was born February 17, 1932 in Osceola, Arkansas, daughter of Clayton E. and Hattie (Cruz) Chism.

On April 9, 1954, Janie was united in marriage with Clayton A. Porter. They made their home in Anthony, Kansas.

As well as raising a family, Janie worked various jobs including school lunchroom cook, furniture upholsterer, helping in the family restaurant, and in housekeeping.  She was a southern lady who took pride in cooking for family and friends.

On October 14, 2025, Janie passed away at the Anthony Community Care Center after a long full life at the age of 93.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton on February 1, 2008; her parents; her siblings: Clyde Chism, Amos Chism, and Pearl Brewer; and granddaughter, Sherri Brittain.

Janie is survived by her children: Diane Shelby of St. John, KS, Danny Porter of Anthony, KS, Trudy Ready and husband, Jerry, of Clearwater, KS, Teresa Miller and husband, Rodney, of Belle Plaine, KS, and Keith Porter of Anthony; sister-in-law, Betty Chism Inebnit; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held.  Memorials in memory of Janie may be made payable to Anthony Senior Citizens or to Obadiah's Pantry and can be sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 602 E. Main St., Anthony, KS 67003.
