Janet Sue (Meyer) Arnold was born on October 9 ^th , 1944 at the Anthony Hospital in Anthony, Kansas from the union of Forrest Arnot Meyer and Margaret Elizabeth (Kerley) Meyer.   She was the youngest of four siblings Charles Ray, Jeannie, and Ronnie.

As a child, Janet attended the Bluff City grade school. She spent many hours with her father helping on the farm and many hours alongside her mother in the kitchen. Janet had a special bond with her siblings and enjoyed playing games and sports with them. Some of her fondest memories involved caring for the cattle that she raised for 4H. She took pride in showing the first, grand prize-winning Hereford in Harper County.

Later, Janet attended Bluff City High School where she met the love of her life, William Stanley "Bill" Arnold.  Janet graduated from Bluff City in 1962 and continued her education in cosmetology. Following cosmetology school, Janet married Bill Arnold on June 27 ^th , 1964 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Anthony, Kansas. Janet and Bill moved to Ark City and were later blessed with two children, Brian Allen (1966) and Brenda Sue (1967). Janet spent her days caring for her children and working as a beautician, (word has it that she even practiced doing a perm or two on Brian) while Bill worked for Conoco. Bill and Sue made many friends throughout those early years, but their dearest and life-long friends were Charlie "Ralph" and Kaye Turner.

In 1971 they moved to the Salt Plains by Wakita, Oklahoma in the "Sand Hills" where they were blessed with their youngest child, Laurie, in 1972.  In 1974, Janet and Bill made their homestead in Bluff City after the passing of Bill's father to take care of the family farm. Janet spent many years making harvest meals, driving the wheat truck, wrangling children , coaching softball , homemaking and working at CJ's Headquarters that she owned and operated until about 10 years ago.  If you needed to get the best haircut in town or catch up on the latest, CJ's was the place to go. Janet had a love for animals (especially her dogs) and fed many stray cats in the "warsh house" on the farm.  The harvest crew always looked forward to her meals and you could always find Bill asking for a second helping of dessert. While in Bluff City, they were blessed to live close to family and spent many days with cousins and siblings.  On March 23 ^rd , 2008 Janet and Bill decided to sell the farm and move to town in Anthony, Kansas.  This is where they would reside for the rest of their days on this Earth.

Janet spent her life being the backbone of the family. She loved her husband, kids, grandchildren, and other family members unconditionally. She was a hard worker, and it was rare to find her sitting unless there was a John Wayne movie playing.  Late at night, you could find her eating freshly popped popcorn and watching a good Western movie.  She loved to dance, especially to George Strait. If she ever had any free time, you could find her and Bill on the green. Family vacations were another favorite past-time of hers and she recently enjoyed a weekend at the lake. She was well known for her cooking skills, from her famous wacky chocolate cake to her home-made Sand Plum jelly.   Janet also had quite the green thumb. She spent many hours in her garden and with her flowers. Later in life, she was told for health reasons, to quit gardening and tending to her yard. However, Janet was stubborn and did not let her health stop her, she continued to garden and care for her flowers even if it was at a slower pace.

Janet loved to shop in the local stores searching for the perfect gift for her family members. She also enjoyed shopping Black Friday deals. She would stay up all hours of the night until she got exactly what she needed. As she got older, you would find her holding everyone's place in line. She was only 4' 10", which made it hard to find her in the line at times.

She spent every Saturday evening at Church and afterwards you could find her at one of the many restaurants in town spending time with friends and family.  On the weekends and in the evenings, you could always find her at a sporting event watching her grandchildren or any other event that they might have. Her pride and joy was watching her grandchildren and you could always see her eyes light up as she watched them.

Janet passed away on November 14 ^th , 2022 at Patterson Health Center unexpectedly. She had suffered from many ailments throughout the years, but always seemed to find the strength to fight back. On January 4 ^th , 2022 the gleam in her eyes dimmed when the love of her life lost his battle with cancer. She spent the last 10 months battling different ailments but continued to enjoy the company of her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. Per usual fashion, I'm sure Bill wondered what took her so long and gave her an ornery grin when he met her at Heaven's gate.

She is preceded in death by her husband (Bill Arnold), parents, sister (Phyllis Jean Frisk), brother (Ronald "Ronnie" Meyer), a child of her own, and a great grandchild.

Janet will be forever missed by her children; Brian Arnold and wife Cappy, Brenda Page and husband Rick, Laurie Mathes and husband Lance; brother, Charles Ray Meyer; Sister-in-law, Vickie Shellhammer and husband, Jim; brother-in-law, Johnny Arnold; nine grandchildren; (Karlie (Adam) Parker, Taylor (Michael) Schrant, Ashlan (Clay) Wilcox, Maggie (Joe) Mathes, Dalton (Brittney) Arnold, Grant Arnold, Gabrielle Page, James and Nathanael Page; eight great grandchildren; Kamdynn & Adalie Parker, Ramey Schrant, Jrue & Jada Wilcox, Raegan Arnold, Baby Wilcox and Baby Mendoza. Several nieces and nephews; best friend Kaye Turner; and many other friends and relatives.

Recitation of Rosary is 5:30 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2022 and Funeral Mass is 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 2, 2022, both at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Anthony, of the St. Joan of Arc Parish.  Inurnment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, west of Anthony.

Friends may sign the register from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Prairie Rose in Anthony.
