James "Jim" "Coach" Moore was born May 10, 1954 in Dalton, Ga. To James Junior and Johnnie Beatrice (Jones) Moore.  He peacefully passed into his heavenly reward on March 21, 2024.  He grew up in Georgia and California.  After graduating high school in 1972 he joined the Army and served 6 years, attending West Point Military Academy, and was stationed for 2 years in North Korea.  He went on to become a high school mathematics and physics teacher and coached assistant football and head wrestling in Georgia.  After a break from teaching Jim co-owned a carpet store in New York and Kentucky. As co-owner of a plane he piloted charter flights for several years. He also enjoyed the game of golf, scuba diving, riding motorcycles, and gambling with his buddies.

In 1993, Jim moved to Kansas after marrying his wife, Carolyn, and taught mathematics at Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School in Wichita, taking head wrestling and assistant football positions.  He taught at Wichita Northwest and was head football and head wrestling coach there.  At El Dorado he taught and coached at head football and assistant wrestling positions, being named Ark Valley Football Coach of the Year.  During this time, he completed his master's degree from Wichita State University with an emphasis in physics.  For three years he returned to Georgia where he taught and assisted coaching in football and wrestling.  While there he was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic Church and had a firm belief in Jesus Christ, which was his rock.  He then returned to Kansas to finish his career at Wichita Southeast.  During his career Jim had a four-time state high school wrestling champ and coached a future NFL player.  After his retirement Jim had a small cow calf herd of red angus on the farm at Danville where he and Carolyn moved to in 2013.  Jim was and will forever be a Georgia "Dawgs" fan.

Over the last week of his life there were countless visits and phone calls from relatives, fellow teachers and coaches, friends, and former students, whom he thought of as his own kids, whose contact warmed Jim's heart and filled him with a happiness and peace.

His survivors are his wife, Carolyn, her sons, Derek and Brent Swingle and their families including five grandchildren, whom he loved dearly; his sisters, Jan McHan, Linda Hales, Sue (Jim) Hitchcock, and brother, Tom, all of Georgia; in-laws, Cheryl and Dan Phillippi of Wichita, and Dixie and Jerry Pomeroy of Hesston; many nieces, nephews, relatives and former students.

Recitation of Rosary will be held 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Immaculate Conception Church in Danville, Kansas.  Viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. until Rosary at the church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2024 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.  Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Danville.
