Obituary

James Dewey "Jim" Newlin was born June 28, 1938 in Anthony, Kansas, son of Lloyd V. and Venita (Dewey) Newlin.  He grew up in Anthony, graduating from Anthony High School with the Class of 1957.  He furthered his education receiving a bachelor's degree from Wichita State University.

On April 7, 1963, Jim was united in marriage with Joyce Livengood.  They made their home on a ranch near Clearwater, Kansas, where they spent 43 years raising Herefords and quarter horses.  They were blessed with one son, Jamie, and one daughter, Staci.  Jim also worked as a shop teacher for 15 years and 30+ years for Pizza Hut franchise Chishom Enterprises.

Jim was a master wood worker.  He carved numerous ducks and rabits along with many wood projects for his family and friends.  With his faverite being his standung cowboy.  Jim's proudest accomplishment was getting his pilots License.  He would tell anyone who was around that he could still fly.

Jim loved to tell his story.  He talked about mowing for the State of Kansas when he was 12.  He had fond memories of his running buddies from high school, but he loved to talk about family.  From his awnrey brothers to his kids.  He loved watching Jamie and Staci play basketball then that turned to watching his Grandkids.  Jim would tell his nurses that Jamie was on the Heavy Rescue Team in Wichita everything they came to see him.

In 2011, Joyce and Jim retired and moved to the Livengood homestead near Manchester, Oklahoma.  It was here on December 13, 2024 that Jim passed away at the age of 86.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce on September 4, 2024; his parents; son-in-law, Kurt Layton; brother Robert(Bob) Newlin; brother in-law Jon Livengood and wife Maggie; Niece Cindy Livengood and sister in-law Lawanna Newlin.

Jim will be deeply missed by his children: Jamie Newlin and wife, Renee, and Staci Layton Berntsen and husband, Chad; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren: Amanda Becker and husband, Josh and children, Blakely, Emryn, and Hallie, Alexis Jackle and husband, Jarred, child on the way, Treyson Layton and daughter, Bella, Kyle Newlin and wife, Tristan and children, Tripp and Kash, Kody Newlin and wife, Kinzie, Kyndall Layton, Kole Newlin and wife, Saige and son, Jameson, Krew Newlin, and Zane Berntsen; his 2 brothers Bill Newlin and wife Carol, Ed Newlin ; other relatives and a host of friends.

A private family memorial service will be held at the Manchester Cemetery where Jim and Joyce will be laid to rest together.
