James Michael "Jim" King was born March 22, 1958 in Loeminster, Massachusetts, son of Paul Wayne and Yvonne Belle (Shappell) King. He grew up in Wichita. After graduating he received his bachelor's degree from Wichita State University.
In 1976, Jim joined the United States Air Force. He served for 6 years before being honorably discharged on July 13, 1982.
After his discharge he returned Wichita and worked along side his dad at King's X. When he later moved to Anthony he worked at Nelson's Restaurant.
In 2003, while working at Nelson's he met Sherry (Warden) Walker. They began dating and in 2009, they finally decided it was time to marry.
In 2004, Jim began working at Farrar Corporation in Norwich, Kansas as an Analysis Programmer. Jim loved computers and his work. He was very good at programming. He and Sherry moved to Norwich for a couple of years, but decided home was in Anthony so they moved back.
Jim was a trusted man. He gave more to other people than he gave to himself. He was a true family man who was generous, kind, and adored his wife, children, and grandchildren. An avid sports fan, he rarely missed a Kansas City Chiefs game. A talented carpenter he enjoyed building things. Cooking was a passion of his and at times he would challenge Sherry to a cook off.
Jim passed away on October 15, 2022 at his home in Anthony at the age of 64. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jim will be deeply missed by his wife, Sherry; children: Aaron King, Sandra Topinka and companion, Gary Duncan, and Robert Walker and wife, Amber; 5 grandchildren: Jasmine King, Wayne Fye, Pat Fye, Lexie Walker, and Robert Walker III; 4 great-grandchildren: Ryker, Rowan, Hurlie, and Lacie Fye; siblings: Kenneth King Sr., Debbie Bradford, Ginny Nelson, and Tara King; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony with Pastor Kent Olds officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, west of Anthony.
Friends may view and sign the register from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials in memory of Jim may be made to the Kansas Humane Society and can be sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 602 E. Main St., Anthony, KS 67003.
