Jack Lee Pomeroy, (Cowboy Jack), 91, rode his final ride on this earth with his peaceful passing in Newton, Kansas on February 13, 2025.

Jack was born on September 14, 1933 as the youngest of four children on a farm near Norwich, Kansas as the son of Charles and Myrtle Pomeroy, who were wheat farmers.  He graduated high school from Norwich High in 1951.  Jack served in the Army and National Guard 1955-1960.  He was first stationed at Fort McClellan in Alabama where he met and married Annie Lois Murray on April 11, 1957.

Jack and Lois raised their family on the original Pomeroy farm during their marriage.  Jack was a wheat farmer, a cattle rancher, and also worked at Farrar Corporation for 40+ years until he retired when he and Lois moved to Newton in 2007.  He was a very hardworking man and taught his children the importance of hard work, integrity, and dedication.

Jack never met a stranger and lived life to the fullest as he loved his family, horses, cars, dancing, and all who became his friends throughout all areas of his life.  He was so very proud of his family and the life he created with everyone.

Jack will be deeply missed by his entire family.  He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Kellenbarger, 99 of Newton; son, Jerry Pomeroy and his wife, Dixie of Hesston, Kansas; daughter, Brenda Austenfeld and her husband, Frank of Naples, Florida and Kansas City; grandson, Jason Pomeroy and wife, Diana of Hesston with great-grandsons: Jack, George, Charlie, and Thomas; granddaughter, Michelle Pomeroy and husband, Jake Winsett of Buena Vista, Colorado with great-grandson, Valyn and great-granddaughter ,Vera; granddaughter, Abbey Sass and husband, Jake of Chatfield, Minnesota with great-grandsons: Sheridan, Merritt, and an additional child on the way; granddaughter, Emily Pomeroy of Wichita, Kansas; granddaughter, Hannah (Austenfeld) Richards and husband, Sam of England; and granddaughter, Rachel Austenfeld and grandson Luke Austenfeld of Kansas City.

The sign above Jack's horse barn read, "Remember…if you climb in the saddle, be ready for the ride!"  You had a great ride, Cowboy Jack!  All of us who were lucky enough to share our lives with you will never forget the life lessons we learned and how to enjoy life to its fullest!

Funeral Service is at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 613 W 14th St ~ Harper, Kansas 67058.  Burial follows at Upchurch Cemetery, northwest of Norwich.
