Jack Milton Owen Jr was born on April 27, 1948 in Wellington, Kansas the only child of Jack Sr and Mary Rebecca (Huddleston) Owen. The family made their home in Argonia, Kansas.
A lifetime resident of Argonia, this is where Jack went to school, graduating from Argonia High School with the class of 1966. He went on to attend Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma. Jack earned his Bachelor's of Science on May 19, 1971. Continuing with college, he was just hours short of his Master's Degree before deciding to not enroll another semester.
Introduced to farming at a young age, Jack was hooked. While in college, he would work for the sale barn as well as haul cattle and hay. Summer times were spent farming in the Argonia area and then custom cutting out into Western Kansas and Eastern Colorado to help pay for school. As his farm operation grew as well as being a stockman, Jack had to finally stop going with the custom cutters. His son, Steve became part of the operation and they worked side by side for years. Even though Jack officially retired, he continued to help in different areas, to include tasks no one else was brave enough to attempt. Jack loved to push the limits when on a tractor and left many in awe or just simply scared for his life.
On April 29, 2006, Jack married Sharon Kaye Smith in Argonia. Her kids and grandkids immediately became his as well. Jack loved spending time with family, especially his grandkids.
After a short battle with cancer, Jack passed away on May 20, 2023 at Patterson Health Center in Anthony, Kansas. He is preceded in death by his parents. Jack is survived by his wife, Sherry Owen of the home; son, Steve Owen of Argonia; twelve grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
There will be a private family graveside service at the Argonia Cemetery.
