Helen Allene (Leader) Niemann was born on February 26, 1931 on the family farm near Attica, Kansas to Harvey and Ruth (Hewitt) Leader, one of 7 children.  She passed away on March 2, 2019 in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 88, surrounded by family.

Helen attended Star Valley school through 8th grade and then attended Attica High School, graduating with the class of 1949.  On September 27, 1949 she was united in marriage to Alban G. Niemann.  To this union they were blessed with three children: David, Judy, and Shirley.

Thru the years, by Al's side, they had several business adventures, all of which included family.  There was a custom harvest run that ended in Circle, Montana each Fall with several relatives and friends, providing many stories of adventure.  They also built and remodeled many houses, as well as run the local lumber yard.  Finally in 1966, wanting to focus on one thing, they started Niemann's of Attica, a well-known furniture store they operated until Al's death in 1984.  It was here they created many lasting friendships.

After Al's passing Helen retired, spending time enjoying her children and grandchildren.  She traveled extensively throughout the States and abroad.  Helen enjoyed many hobbies including drawing, painting, crocheting, reading, writing, and most of all helping with the grandchildren.  She was a member of Twenty and Four club, Attica Art Guild, and American Legion Auxiliary.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John and Harry Leader and sisters, Mary Frechette and Arlene Leader; son David Niemann; and grandson Jarold Baker.

Helen will be missed by one brother, Carl Leader and one sister, Velma Anthony; her children, Judy Mans and husband Larry of Attica and Shirley Baker and husband John of Harper; grandchildren: Michelle Kuhn and husband Kelly of Wichita, Clint Mans and wife Christy of Attica, and Jason Baker of Harper; great-grandchildren: Jordan and Savannah Baker, Garrett and Amy Kuhn, and Miles, Makena, and Mason Mans: numerous relatives and friends.

Friends may view and register from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Recitation of the Rosary is 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Mass of the Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2019 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Harper, of the St. Joan of Arc Parish Community with Father Bob Pinninti officiating.  Interment will follow at the Attica Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Attica Senior Center and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
