Glennis Elaine Latta, daughter of Earl and Fern (Seyb) Williams, was born June 2, 1928 in Harper, Kansas.  She passed away Monday, July 15, 2019 at Wheatlands Health Care Center in Kingman, Kansas at the age of 91.

Glennis attended Freeport Elementary School 1st through 3rd grade and then began attending Harper Elementary in 4th grade.  She graduated from Harper High School with the class of 1945.  Receiving a violin scholarship to Wichita University, during college Glennis played the violin in the Wichita University Orchestra and the Wichita Symphony and played saxophone in the W.U. band.  She received her teaching certificate and taught 3rd grade in Peabody, Kansas for one year.  She then taught vocal music in country schools for a short time and gave piano lessons to local children for many years.

On July 18, 1948, Glennis was united in marriage with Edwin Latta at the Harper United Methodist Church.  They lived on a farm at Danville until August of 1951, when they moved to the present farm located northwest of Harper.  This union was blessed with two children, Steven and Rebecca (Becky).

When she was a senior in high school, 16-year-old Glennis started as the substitute organ player for the Harper United Methodist Church.  In the late 1950s or early 60s, she took over as the full time organist and continued that roll faithfully until the fall of 2018.

Glennis was the quintessential farm wife.  She loved to garden, cook, sew, crochet, and quilt.  She drove the wheat truck for many years and raised chickens, bucket calves, pigs, and sheep to help Edwin.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Edwin; son, Steven Latta; and siblings: Phyllis Louise Williams, Keith Williams, Carolyn Barnes, Gene Williams, and Ferris Williams.  She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Schultz and her husband, Michael of Houston, Texas; brother, Kenneth Williams of Harper; grandchildren: Bruce (Robin) Latta, Scott Latta, Nancy Barker, Katherine (Douglas) Barker, and Brian (Claire) Schultz; great-grandchildren: Adriana Barker, Isabella Barker, Alexander Latta, Anthony Latta, Addyson Latta, twins Iris and Elin Latta, twins Reese and Remmy Latta, Colton Barker, and Briella Barker; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Harper United Methodist Church and can be sent in care of the funeral home.

Visitation is 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Funeral service is 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the Harper United Methodist Church with Pastor Brenda Kostner-Johnson officiating.  Interment will follow at the Harper Cemetery.
