Genevieve Kathryn Bear was born July 26, 1926 in Caddoa, Colorado to Esther Ella (Troutman) and Harold Ebben Honn.  When she was two, the family moved to Harper County, Kansas and lived in the Grove School neighborhood.  She graduated from Harper High School with the class of 1944.  Genevieve passed away on July 20, 2018 in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 91.

Preceding Genevieve in death was her husband, Millard Edwin Bear of 66 years; her parents, Esther and Harold Honn; and her brother, Harold E. Honn and his wife, Betty.

Genevieve attended Wichita State University, studying music and accounting.  The majority of her professional career was with Boeing Aircraft from 1956 to 1985, where she held positions as an industrial engineer, financial analyst, secretary, and accountant.

On September 1, 1948, Genevieve and Millard were united in marriage at the Harper United Methodist Church.  They lived in Derby while working at Boeing.  The couple also worked together on their farming operation in the Udall area.  Millard enjoyed the farming and Genevieve enjoyed the livestock side of things.  Upon retirement in 1985, they spent most of their time in Zapata, Texas, enjoying the warm winters, fishing, and other activities with their friends.  While living there, Genevieve was a member of Chapter #1106 of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Genevieve loved to read, was an avid Republican, and enjoyed traveling with Millard to the east coast and to Europe, researching their family genealogies. She often talked of the castles they visited while in Europe.  Genevieve was also an avid fan of most anything Millard wanted to try.  They fished in Canada for Muskie and participated in field trials with their German Shorthair hunting dogs.  Genevieve told stories about being in Canada, wrapped in heavy winter coats while the fishing guide was in short sleeves.

Genevieve is survived by her niece, Kathe and husband, Harold Eggert of Texas; Millard's niece, Marilyn Kay (Jones) Oney of West Virginia; great-nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.  She will be missed by all of those who provided care for her during the last years of her life.

Friends may view and register from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Funeral Service is 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Harper with Pastor Ken Keeling officiating.  Interment will follow at the Harper Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to Harper United Methodist Church or Zenda United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
