Geneva Mary Drouhard was born November 24,1924 on the family farm northeast of Wakita, Oklahoma to Peter and Mary (Schwarz) Schmitz, the eleventh of twelve children. She entered eternal rest February 23, 2020 at Spring View Manor in Conway Springs, Kansas. Being one of the youngest in the family, Geneva spent much time in her younger years helping care for many nieces and nephews and quickly became a favorite aunt to many of them. She attended Mound Ridge School and graduated eighth grade from there in 1938. Growing up on a farm in Northern Oklahoma in the "Dirty Thirties" meant tough times and families and neighbors banding together to help each other weather the hard times. The Catholic faith helped to make the sacrifices and tough times bearable in those days and the Schmitz family relied on it very heavily.

Geneva was united in marriage to Arthur Harold Drouhard on May 11, 1948 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church at Clyde, Oklahoma. To this marriage were born four sons and one daughter: Carl, Dean, Mike, Mary, and Francis. Art and Geneva made their home on a farm northwest of Argonia, Kansas, where they had a wheat and cattle operation. She did her part adding to the success of the farm, whether that meant running farm errands, feeding the crews in the fields, helping Art with the cattle, or keeping the house cleaned up amongst the terror of four energetic sons and a daughter.

Geneva was active in the Immaculate Conception Church of the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Community in Harper County all her married life until her dementia made this very difficult the last several years of her life. She was also a member of the Immaculate Conception Altar Guild during this time as well as being an Associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph. She worked closely with Kansans for Life and headed up the Life Chain at Argonia for many years. After the death of her husband in 1993, her grandchildren became an even more important part of her life and she spent a great deal of time volunteering to help care for them, hauling them around to school activities, or maybe just having sleepovers so the grandkids could get together.

She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur (Art) in 1993, a grandson Chris in 1994, and nine brothers and a sister. She is survived by four sons: Carl (Sharon) and Francis (Lori) of Danville, Dean (Sandy) of Argonia, Mike (Leah) of Wellington, and a daughter, Mary Johnson (Bill) of Wichita; a brother Don (Dorothy) Schmitz of Caldwell; sister-in-law Delores Schmitz of Caldwell; ten grandchildren and a host of other family members.

Friends may view and register from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Recitation of the Rosary is 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2020 with visitation with family following and Mass of the Christian Burial is 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 29, 2020, both at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Danville, of the St. Joan of Arc Parish Community with Father Bob Pinninti officiating.  Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery, south of Danville.
