Floyd Edward Ghere was born on April 10, 1942 in Harper, Kansas to Russel James and Mary Inez (Neighbors) Ghere.  He grew up on the farm southeast of Harper with his five brothers and baby sister.  Floyd attended grade school in Danville, Kansas before going onto Harper High School where he graduated with the class of 1960.

After high school, Floyd started his automotive repair business at the farm.  He later designed and manufactured two metal buildings on the highway in Danville, establishing his new business, Ghere Manufacturing.  Here he engineered and built anhydrous applicators.  Other projects included his mini cultivator, welding for his customers, working on vehicle repairs, and whatever else he could find to make money.  As the farm industry declined, he established Danville Industries.  This business made and sold The Danville: No Drift Chemical Applicator for lawns, which he helped design.

On July 2, 1990, Floyd married Terry Kay Johnson in Wellington, Kansas.  The couple never had kids, but they raised many dogs and cats through the years.

Floyd loved to work on engines of all kinds.  He had a passion for cars from the 1950s and he was happiest getting these old cars to run again.  Even though he never lacked work to do, he always made time to tell stories and pull jokes on anyone and everyone.  And of course, Floyd was a connoisseur of beer.  First his Coors before upgrading to Milwaukee's Best.

At the age of 78, Floyd passed away at his home in rural Harper on September 1, 2020.  Preceding him in death are his parents, Russel and Inez Ghere and brothers, Howard and Leonard.  Floyd is survived by his wife, Terry of Harper; brothers: Raymond Ghere (Marilyn) of Sedgwick, Kansas, Clyde Ghere (Sharol) of Harper, Carl Ghere (Jude) of Hutchinson, Kansas; sister, Pauline Oliver (Doug) of Harper; brothers and sisters in law; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.

Visitation is 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday with family present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Graveside Service is 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Fairview Cemetery, south of Danville with Pastor Ken Davidson officiating.

Memorials may be given to Harper City Historical Society and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
