Everett Maurice "Moose" Armstrong was born July 25, 1943 in Wichita, Kansas, one of four children born to Charles Everett and Rosa Fern (Ball) Armstrong.  Moose graduated from Anthony High School in 1961. He attended Independence Community College for one semester.

Moose entered the Army National Guard in 1960 as a Combat Construction Specialist and was honorably discharged in 1964. He also served in the Army Reserves from 1964-1968 until he was honorably discharged from the Reserves.

On June 9, 1968, Moose was united in marriage with Aleta Moses at the Christian Church in Anthony, Kansas.  This union was blessed with two children:  Barbara and James.

Moose lived most of his life in Anthony, Kansas but traveled throughout the country working in the racehorse industry. He was a horse groom, trainer, valet and clerk of scales throughout his career. Moose was a beloved part of the racehorse industry in Arizona, Nebraska, Minnesota, Arkansas, Indiana and Kentucky. He retired in 2011 but continued to share stories of life on the track and all the wonderful friendships he made through the years.

Moose was a member of Masonic Lodge #200 in Anthony, KS. He enjoyed woodworking, Sudoku, crossword puzzles and sports.

On March 26, 2020, Moose passed away at his home in Anthony, Kansas at the age of 76.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Bush.

Moose will be deeply missed by his best friend, Aleta Armstrong; his children:  Barbara Andres and husband, Gary, and James Armstrong and wife, Kim; his siblings:  Ronnie Armstrong and Sherry Cambron; six grandchildren:  Jaclyn Weathers, Holly Andres, Nadine Armstrong, Charlie Armstrong, Lauren Scherler and Brendan Hammock; one great-granddaughter, Lucy Scherler; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Graveside service will be held Thursday, April 2, 2020 at Spring Grove Cemetery, west of Anthony.  Friends may register 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony.

Memorials in memory of Moose may be made to Obadiah's Pantry and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
