Ellis Dean Mortenson was born on September 13, 1951 in Circle, Montana to Mort Morten Mortenson and Florence Hortence (Wheeler) Mortenson.  He passed away at home on March 18, 2025 at the age of 73.

Joining the United States Navy, Ellis proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and was a long-time member of the American Legion Post 256 in Wichita, Kansas.

Ellis was united in marriage with Patricia Mae Besore on December 29, 1987 in Virginia City, Montana.  He accepted her four children as his own.  They made their home in Harper, Kansas for almost 40 years.

Preceding Ellis in death were his parents, Mort and Florence Mortenson and his brother, Charles Knight.  He is survived by his wife, Patricia Mortenson of the home; children: Carol Carlson of Lions, Kansas, Sherrie Marsh of Pratt, Kansas, Donald Dimitt (Virginia) of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Edgar Dimitt of Lions; brothers, Einar Mortenson (Gail) of Sturgis, South Dakota and Eric Mortenson (Jeri) of Bozeman, Montana; twelve grandchildren and several grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

The family will organize a Celebration of Life at a later time.
