Duane Edward Baker was born May 16, 1945 in Anthony, Kansas, son of George Edward and Frances (Ryan) Baker.
He grew up on a farm and attended school in Wakita, Oklahoma. He attended two years of college at Oklahoma State and received a degree in electronics.
On March 21, 1965, Duane was united in marriage with Mary Catherine Benson in Wakita, Oklahoma. This union was blessed with two daughters, Anita and Sherry.
Due to telephone company job related moves, they lived in Alva, Oklahoma, Sabetha, Kansas, and Topeka, Kansas. In April 2018, they moved to Wichita, Kansas.
Duane enjoyed spending time with family and friends, doing church work, studying the Bible with people, gardening, and flying. He held a General Radiotelephone Operator license, was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and had a private pilot's license.
Duane passed away on Friday, May 22, 2020, at his home in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 75. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carrol Fowler; and three sisters: Vivian Moore, Evelyn McDonald, and Bernice McClaflin.
Duane will be deeply missed by his wife, Cathy Baker; daughters, Anita Weathers (husband Jim), and Sherry Durham (husband Chad); five grandchildren, Nikole English, Brenden Weathers, Dilan English, Brady Weathers, and Alyssa Durham; one great-grandchild, Aleah Hensley; three sister-in-laws, but sisters by choice, Diana, Beverly, and Rita; and a host of friends and relatives.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Northside Church of Christ, 4545 N. Meridian Ave., Wichita, KS with Jim Weathers officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church and 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony, Kansas.
Graveside service will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at the Rosedale Cemetery, southwest of Manchester, Oklahoma.
Memorials in memory of Duane may be made to Know Your Bible or to the Rosedale Church of Christ Cemetery Fund and may be sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 602 E. Main St., Anthony, KS 67003.
