Obituary

Donald Leroy Freeman was born June 3, 1926 in Argonia, Kansas, son of Oliver and Relna (Rhodes) Freeman. He graduated from Harper High School.  His mother signed for him to join the United States Army and he honorably served during World War II.

On December 17, 1947, Don married Pauline Barker.  The couple had one daughter, Dona Lee in January of 1949, and one son, Richard Dean in December of 1949. Sadly, both children passed away within a few days of birth.  In 1975, they were blessed with their foster son, Jeffrey Shrewsbury.

In 1971, he and Pauline moved to Danville, Kansas, from Pinedale, Wyoming, and began farming. He continued farming until retiring.  The couple moved to Argonia where Pauline passed away in 2009. Later Don moved to Anthony.

On December 29, 2024, Don passed away at the Anthony Community Care Center at the age of 98.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; children; and sister, Donna Jean Burdge.

Don will be deeply missed by his son, Jeffrey Shrewsbury and wife, Julie; two grandsons: Jake Shrewsbury and Ben Hickey; two great-grandsons: Jace and Jayvin Shrewsbury; brother, Carl Dean Freeman and wife, Doreen; and his nieces and nephews.

Private family services will be held.  Memorials in memory of Don may be made to the American Legion and can be sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 602 E. Main St., Anthony, KS 67003.
