Dixie Dee Whaley was born with her twin sister, Donna Kay, October 2, 1934, at their parents' home between Attica and Corwin, Kansas.  She was the daughter of Leslie Hart and Rosa Lee (Shroyer) Whaley.  Due to her small size, Dixie was not expected to live.

Dixie attended Attica High School where she found her love for sports.  She loved and was very good at softball, earning many trophies throughout her years.  A family game, Dixie's team included her playing third base, her sister Donna as pitcher, her cousin Kay as catcher, her cousin Arlene on first base, and her uncle Babcock as coach.  Dixie was also very good at track and boy was she fast! She also participated in cheerleading.

After graduating, Dixie went to work in Anthony for Attorney J. Howard Wilcox. Then the ASCS office.  Saturday mornings were often spent taking Janie to Midway for a coke.  During this time she met and fell madly in love with Dick Moore, a farm boy from south of Anthony.

On June 9, 1957, Dixie and Dick Hartman Moore were united in marriage at the Presbyterian Church in Corwin, Kansas.  After their marriage, Dixie became a dedicated farm wife and mother as they welcomed their three children to the family, son, Danny in August 1958, and twin daughters, Diane and Debra in September 1960.  Dixie always said she had three babies and was delighted to have them.  The twins had to stay in the hospital for 2 weeks until they reached a healthy weight to go home so this gave her some time to recover as she had her hands full!

Mothering always came first but she would never shy from all the hard work included in being a dedicated farm wife.  She drove the wheat truck and tractor, hauled anhydrous tanks, worked cattle, cooked, delivered meals to the fields, picked up parts, mowed, kept house, sewed dresses for the twins, and numerous other duties, all while being the best mom the kids could have ever asked for.

Dixie was a dedicated member of the Burchfiel United Methodist Church.  She loved the Lord and her very worn bible is proof that she was a dedicated Christian, always trusting in God's word.  She served through the church in many ways throughout the decades she and Dick attended.  One of her favorite things to do was sing!  She loved praising God through her voice at church.  She believed in Jesus and angels.  Having a very strong connection with her twin, when Donna fell ill, for months Dixie would wake up frequently at 1:30 a.m. and would tell Dick she saw angels.  The more Donna's health declined, the more often she would be woken by the angels.  Then to our shock Barbara, her oldest sister, passed away suddenly. The night Donna passed, Dixie was woken and she saw Jesus glowing in her closet door.  This brought her peace.

Dixie was all about family!  She never failed to be there for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, parents, and sisters.  She truly was a best friend to her children.  She never missed a single monumental moment in any of their busy lives.  Special times in her later years included celebrating her 60th birthday with Donna, going zip lining on her 80th birthday, yearly trips to the State Fair, visiting the State Capital and Hutchinson Salt Mines with her girls, and riding in a hot air balloon with Diane flying over the Whaley homestead.  Dick was surprised to hear she rode in the hot air balloon.  Dixie was definitely full of life and adventure.

Dixie enjoyed shopping at her cousin, Sherrie's store, Jett's, in Anthony.  She had a closet full of beautiful clothes for such a hard working farm wife.

In 2020, Dick took a fall and was admitted to the hospital a few days before their anniversary.  They celebrated their 63rd anniversary together at the hospital and then God called Dick home the next day.  This left Dixie heartbroken and longing to be reunited with him.

Family gatherings were frequent and one of the best was Memorial Day 2021, one day before she was called home to heaven.  It was a fabulous time, full of love, laughter, and many good conversations.  Many memories shared and made this perfect day!  On June 1, 2021, Dixie was enjoying a beautiful evening and view sitting in the glider on her front porch, waiting for Danny to pick her up so she could go watch the great-grandkids play ball.  It was during this peaceful time that God decided it was time for her to join Dick in heaven.  God knew the two loved each other so much that they needed to be reunited before their 64th anniversary.  Dixie also meets in heaven her parents and her sisters and brother-in-law, Donna Kay Smith, Barbara Jean and Duane Pulliam.

Dixie will be forever missed by her Danny Moore (Shirley), Diane Cashier (Dan), and Debra Blanchat (Randy); 6 grandchildren: Derek Moore (Brooke), Dedra Rathgeber (Josh), Ryan Cashier (Jana), Brent Cashier (Chelsea), Nicholas Blanchat (Britton), and Adriane Wells (Cletus); 14 great-grandchildren plus a baby girl Wells arriving in September:  Sam and Mila Dixie Moore, Hayden, Anden, Rylan, and Kolsen Rathgeber, Carter and Camden Cashier, Braxton and Rhett Cashier, and Aniston, Chase, Briggs, and Collins Blanchat; brother-in-law, Leon Smith; sister-in-law, June Kastens; nieces and nephews; cousins; her Burchfiel church family; and many dear friends.

Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2021 at the United Methodist Church in Anthony, Kansas.  Burial will follow in Forest Park Cemetery.

Viewing will be held 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, with the family receiving friends from 5-7, at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Burchfiel United Methodist Church or to Birthline of Wichita, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
