With heavy hearts and deep sadness, the family of Dennis Newberry announces that he passed peacefully on June 29, 2026 with his wife by his side.
Dennis was born February 17, 1953 at Galloway Hospital in Anthony, Kansas. He was the middle of three boys and probably the orneriest. He attended Attica school system and graduated from Attica High in 1971. Finishing his high school career with good grades, good friends, and good times, like the adventures of playing sports and even being homecoming king.
Dennis married Penny Mardis on December 18, 1982. This union was blessed with one daughter on November 21, 1984, Jennifer Joann. Dennis was an amazing father teaching his girl about horses (his great love) which he spent 14 years perfecting. Rodeo was not necessarily her love, but he made sure she was well mounted and good at it.
Dennis spent most of his working career in the oilfield and ranching, since he had a deep love for the country where he had spent his adult life. He had a well lived, blessed life, and after retirement he and Penny moved to Arkansas to ranch. During his time in Arkansas, Dennis became a grandfather on his birthday in 2014. He spent many weekends traveling to Kansas for ball games of any kind, as long as his grandson, Knox, participated.
Dennis loved his family without boundary. He loved farm, cattle, God’s land and was grateful to be a steward of said land while God allowed.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Penny Newberry; daughter, Jennifer (Kraig) Bowe; grandson, Knox Bowe; brother, Randy Newberry; and many nieces, nephews, and loving family.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents, Clifton Newberry and Joan (Garlow) Newberry Helm; and brother, Micheal Newberry.
Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2026 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in HARPER. Burial will follow in the Attica Cemetery. There will be no public viewing or visitation.
Memorials in memory of Dennis may be made directly payable to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch and can be sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 602 E. Main St., Anthony, KS 67003.
