David Miller

David Wesley Miller, known as Dave by all, began his journey in life on August 19, 1945 in Anthony, Kansas, born to Gerald Wayne and Helen June (Hatfield) Miller. He was brought to the family farm two miles north of the Anthony Airport, where he was welcomed by his two older brothers, Jerry and Haynes.

While living on the farm, Dave learned to do many things. He attended Plainview grade school before going on to Anthony High School, graduating with the class of 1964. Dave then attended an automotive tech school in 1965.

Later in 1965, Dave met his future wife, Ronda DeLee Trotter. They were married on April 14, 1967 and made their first home in Anthony. Dave worked for Cessna at this time. In July of 1968, they welcomed a daughter, Jamie into their family.

The family moved to Attica, Kansas in 1969, where Dave worked for Ogden & Sons Roofing. He then went to work for Mull Drilling, where it took his family to Cheyene Wells, Colorado for about a year. His job then brought the family back to Attica, where Dave decided to start his own business, Dave Miller’s Tank Service and they also ran a gas station. Dave served on the Attica Fire Department for around 40 years and he was the fire chief for about 20 years of that dedicated service.

Dave began as a part-time police officer in 1969 for the city of Attica and also started as a part-time deputy for the Harper County Sheriff’s Office in 1972. He also had many other jobs through the years. In 1995, Dave was appointed the full-time Chief of Police for Attica in 1995. He had served as the Attica municipal judge from 1990 to 1995. Already a busy man, Dave fostered a few kids, coached softball, and was an avid bowler.

In 2016, Dave was able to take an early retirement at the age of 70. This allowed him to spend his time with his wife and various pets, Mac and then Panther. He also spent a lot of time with the little girl, Victoria they helped raise for many years, going to many school events, soccer and softball games. Her special name for Dave was Papa.

Dave’s life journey ended on September 7, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Helen Miller; brothers: Jerry Miller and his wife, Barbara and Haynes Miller; son-in-law, Gary Watts; sister and brother-in-law, Vickie and Garry Nicholas; and many pets.
