Dale Marvin Wohlschlegel was born on May 20, 1939 in Scott City, Kansas, the youngest of nine children born to Benjamin F. and Mary Evelyn (Hooper) Wohlschlegel.  Moving to Harper in March of 1946, this is where Dale attended school and graduated with the "Great" class of 1957.

In December of 1961, Dale married Jody Nicholas and they would have celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversary on December 22nd.  The couple were blessed with three children: Cherle, Gary, and Brook; and one grandson Chandler.

Although Dale enjoyed his life as a farmer, his greatest joy was being a school bus driver and seeing all the kids.  Dale would drive to sporting activities whenever possible and he was their biggest cheerleader in the stands.  It didn't take long for all the kids to love riding Dale's bus, even when it came time for them to sit in the penalty seat directly behind him.  He drove a bus for 40 years, retiring at the age of 80.

Dale loved all sorts of hunting.  He would walk the fields until he got to where he could no longer walk and then he took up deer hunting where he was able to sit in a tree stand.  He hunted and climbed into his deer stand until the age of 81.

Dale also loved all sports, even when he managed to get himself thrown out of them.  He was a very avid and vocal KC Chiefs fan and loved calling his daughter Brook when Dallas was getting beat.  Mom often had to leave the room when the Chiefs were playing because Dale was yelling at the TV as if they could hear him.

Staying very busy, Dale made his mark on his community.  He spent many years as an instructor with the Hunter Safety Program.  Also, when his son Gary was only 6 years old, Dale and Vernon Mathes established the Pee Wee Wrestling Program.  The family never spent a Saturday at home until Gary graduated from High School as a State Wrestling Champion in 1984.  Needless to say, the family got a little tired of pizza over the years.

Once the kids were out of the house and on their own, Dale and Jody took their one and only vacation to South Dakota to go goose hunting in the middle of winter.  Brrr.  Dale had a love for cars and enjoyed going to as many car shows as he possibly could.  He made lots of new friends over the years.  He and Jody in the early years would attend the Drags in Great Bend, which he would compete in, but they never made it home with 2nd gear.

Even though Dale suffered from rheumatoid arthritis from the age of 30, it never slowed him down or stopped him from enjoying life.

At the age of 85, Dale passed away on December 5, 2024.  He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Cherle; grandson Chandler Christiansen; his two brothers; and five of his sisters.  Dale is survived by his wife, Jody of the home in Harper; children, Gary Wohlschlegel of Harper and Brook Stitt (Steve) of Anthony; sister, Nancy Mortimer of Harper; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Memorial Service is 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home, Harper with Pastor Royce Vogt officiating.  A private family inurnment will take place at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hunter Safety Program and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
