Obituary

Dora Jean Hakanson, known to all as Jean, was born June 30, 1930 in Medicine Lodge, Kansas, daughter of Joseph and Tessie (Cowgill) Fussell. She grew up in Medicine Lodge where she graduated from Medicine Lodge High School with the class of 1949. She attended the Medicine Lodge Christian Church, where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized on July 5, 1942.

On August 10, 1949, Jean married Harold R. Hakanson of Isabel, in the church she grew up in. The union was blessed with three children: Carl, Teryl, and Jerydth. The couple spent their early years in several small Kansas communities, where Harold taught school. The family then moved to Morgan Hill, California, where Jean excelled at being a mother, a homemaker, and a school bus driver, while Harold worked as an industrial engineer.  In 1993, after Harold's retirement, Jean and Harold returned to Kansas and moved to Anthony.

She loved living closer to her siblings and their children. Bingo with her sister Charlotte was a favorite pastime. Jean and Harold loved to travel and took trips to Europe and Australia. More recently, she appreciated the many visits from her nieces, Linda and Janet, and nephew, Bob. Jean loved being a grandma. Her presence in everyone's lives will be greatly missed.

On February 4, 2025, Jean passed away at Spring View Manor in Conway Springs, at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold on August 7, 2012; her parents; and 9 siblings: Mary, Nora, Thelma, Leota, Gayle, Charolotte, Leon, Maxine, and Neal.
