Obituary

Vernon Harold Bean was born on December 27, 1940 to Vernon Ralph Bean and Gladys Irene (Post) Bean in the Galloway Hospital in Anthony, Kansas.  He peacefully passed away in his home in Milam, Texas on January 2, 2022.

Harold attended the Anthony schools, graduating with the Anthony High School class of 1958.  He was active in band and maybe some of you might remember him playing the sousaphone.

Shortly after high school, Harold (later known by his friends as Jim or Jimmy), joined the Navy and remained enlisted there until his retirement.  He was a machinist and electrician and was involved in multiple deployments to Vietnam in the River Boat Support Unit on the Da Nang River.

In 1985, Harold was united in marriage to Patti Wilson in California.  Together they purchased some land along the Toledo Bend Reservoir in Texas and began building their dream, Bean's VIP Camping Resort.  The couple spent many years working together, improving and caring for their dream.  Sadly, Harold lost Patti in 2012.  But he continued on with their business, welcoming friends and campers with a smile and a sparkle in his eyes.  Then one day he was feeling tired, sat down in his chair to rest a bit, and that is when the good Lord gently took his hand and led him home.

He was fondly remembered by all as a "one of a kind," the man who always had a story to tell.

Harold is survived by his brother, Don Bean (Carla); two sisters, Carol Ann Jacob (Phil) and Lois Elaine Wiechen (Walter); numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned.
