Obituary

Connie Sue Stitt, 68, of Harper, Kansas, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024, surrounded by her family and close friends. Born on August 4, 1956, in Anthony, Kansas, to Cleon and Vera Cantrell, Connie grew up on the family farm near Waldron, where her deep love for nature and the outdoors began. As the eldest of three siblings—Garrett, Sara, and herself—she developed a nurturing spirit that stayed with her throughout her life.

Connie was a proud member of the first graduating class of Chaparral High School. She began her career working as an expeditor at Cessna Aircraft, where she met her future husband, James Stitt. Together, they raised two children, Julie Marie and John Daniel, in Anthony, Kansas. Connie's compassionate nature led her to healthcare, where she worked as a nurse's assistant at the Harper Hospital and the local nursing home. Her gentle touch and caring heart left an indelible mark on all those she cared for.

Later in life, Connie moved to Harper, Kansas, where she met and formed a loving partnership with Jimmy Stewart. In Harper, she embraced her passion for gardening, animals, reading, and music.  She spent her days attending church, nurturing her beautiful plants, caring for her animals, and attending live music concerts.

Connie's legacy lives on through her children, Julie Berry and her husband Ryan of Mansfield, TX, John Stitt and his wife Jennifer of League City TX, Companion Jimmy Stewart, Brother Garrett Cantrell of Lamont OK, Sister Sara Cantrell of Grapevine TX and her cherished grandchildren, Abigail, Emerson and Lincoln. She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, James.  Connie's colorful spirit, generous heart, and love for life will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

A private graveside service will be held for family members at Spring Grove Cemetery.

A celebration of Connie's life will take place on Friday, November 29, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church in Anthony, Kansas, where friends and family will gather to honor her memory.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Connie may be made to the Connie Stitt Memorial Fund and can be sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 602 E. Main St., Anthony, KS 67003.
