Clyde Eldon Calvert, 82, of Harper, Kansas, died Tuesday afternoon, September 13, 2022. Born May 16, 1940, in Attica, Kansas, he was the son of the late Alfred and Rosetta (Thornton) Calvert.

Funeral Service is 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2022, at Prairie Rose Funeral Home, Harper with Pastor Tom Walters officiating.   A light lunch at the Attica Municipal Hall will follow.  Private family interment at the Attica Cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Country Care Hospice or Huntington Disease Association and can be sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Homes, 613 W 14th St ~ Harper, Kansas  67058.

After graduating Attica High School, Clyde traveled and worked for various employers including Martin Marietta and Dow Chemical, living in Washington, Oregon, California, and Colorado.  His heart was always in Attica and Harper County, though, and he returned to the area around 1965.

When he first returned, he worked laying carpet and refinishing woodwork, but started a dairy farm just north of Attica shortly thereafter.  He mastered animal nutrition as an award winning salesman for Vigortone, then worked in the oilfield for several years.  After retiring from there, he was able to focus on his lifelong second "job" (love) ranching and raising cattle and horses.

Clyde was someone you could always count on for a helping hand or even just a dose of his quick, dry humor.  He loved raising and training border collies and well-muscled quarter horses (especially smart, mischievous ones!), and once he returned to the house (often well after dark), he enjoyed watching old Westerns and bull riding.

Clyde is survived by his wife of 35 years, Cheryl; daughter Jena Sawyer (Rich), son Jason Calvert, and stepdaughter Deanna Leslie (Mike); sisters, Betty Hammersmith (Bernnie) and Carol Fowler (partner Darrell Parker); ten grandchildren: Scott Nicholas (wife Rachel), Roman Shurley, Rhiannon Sawyer, Mandy Smith (Chris), Mason Shurley, Zack Leslie, Brenna Shurley, Matthew Calvert (partner Maddie), Eric Sawyer, and Jade Calvert; seven great grandchildren; many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Daphne Nicholas; brothers Bobby Gene, Marvin, and Frances; sister Mary Jean Lytle; and parents, Alf and Rosetta.
