Charles Fredrick Linn Jr., first born son of Charles F. Linn Sr. and Addie Helms Linn, was born August 29, 1922 on the Linn farm 2 miles west of Waldron, Kansas. He joined three older sisters, Helen age 10, Virginia age 8, and Lorene age 6. Five years later in 1927 his brother Kenneth Lee joined the family. In his early years Charles followed his dad everywhere. He had many fond memories of growing up on the farm. He attended Hillview Grade School 1 mile north of home with his buddy Albert Zeller who lived down the road along the creek. At age 12, he gave his life to Christ and became a faithful follower.

He attended Anthony High School riding back and forth for 2 years with friend, Cora Smith. During his Jr. and Senior years, Charles and Albert roomed with Mrs. Croft in Anthony. Throughout his high school years Charles was active in manual training, orchestra, shop, band for 4 years playing trombone and Glee Club. Senior year Charles went to the Vocation Moyer Machine Shop to learn tools and machining. Charles really liked it so he worked there through the summer for 35 cents an hour. The fall after graduating Charles went to California to work in the ship yards.

On August 24, 1942, Charles was united in marriage with Lois Hopkins at the Waldron Christian Church. They moved to Wichita where Charles was employed by Boeing working on B-29's. After three deferments, Charles was called to serve in the Army Air Corps being inducted on April 22, 1944. Lois stayed home until August of 1944, when Charles was permanently stationed at Alamogordo, New Mexico.

Charles was honorably discharged on May 9, 1946 and returned to Waldron to farm. In 1950, they were blessed with a son, Michael LaRoy. In 1952, they purchased the Linn family farm from Charles' parents. In 1954, they were blessed with their daughter, Sally Ann. They continued running the Linn family farm until 1985 when they built a home in Anthony.

Charles drove a school bus for 28 years and served as sexton of the Waldron Cemetery for many years. He was a faithful member of the Anthony Christian Church. Until the end he enjoyed singing his favorite church hymns, always remembering the page number in the hymnals. The very last song he sang was "Have Thine Own Way Lord." Charles also enjoyed refinishing furniture for family and friends.

On March 19, 2018, Charles passed away at the Anthony Community Care Center at the age of 95. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois on April 29, 2012; and siblings: Helen, Virginia, Lorene, and Kenneth.

Charles will be deeply missed by his children: Mike Linn and companion, Sherry Holder, and Sally Peters and husband, Earl; son-in-law, Dale McFall; 6 grandsons: Kenton Linn and wife, Diane, Steve McFall, Rusty McFall and wife, Brenda, Doug McFall and wife, Carol, Brian McFall and wife, Jolyn, and Joey McFall and wife, Chrissy; 8 great-grandchildren: Gabe, Weston, Wrangler, Miles, Claire and Brooks, and Ava Marie Linn and Jackson Linn; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2018 at the Christian Church in Anthony with Pastor Ed Preston officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Park Cemetery with Military Honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony.

Memorials in memory of Charles may be made to Anthony Christian Church, Rivercross Hospice or Anthony Community Care Center and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
