Charles E. Laing was born April 18, 1944 in Anthony, Kansas, son of Marlan Leon and Barbara (Turrentine) Laing. He grew up in Anthony, graduating from Anthony High School with the Class of 1962.

Charles owned and operated Laing Racing Enterprises, building race cars and racing. He was well known for the cars he built and set many track records throughout the Midwest.

After retiring from racing, Charles went to work for St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita as a boiler room mechanic, where he worked for 20 years until retiring again.

Not being the type to just sit around, Charles began farming the family ground in Harper County. He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, shooting, gardening, racing and eating. He was a member of the NRA.

On January 11, 2018, Charles passed away at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 73 years. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Charles will be deeply missed by his children: Michael Laing and wife, Kimberly, and Jeffrey Laing; grandchildren: Bennett, Alec and Carys Laing; sisters: Judy and Larry Colglazier, Debbie and Gary Smith and Susan and Gary Stevens; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony. Burial will follow in Forest Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
