Charles Owen Huffman passed away at the age of 89 on August 22, 2018, in Attica, KS.  He was born in Eureka, Kansas on May 5, 1929 to Edgar and Bernice Huffman.  He graduated from high school in Hoisington, Kansas and attended radio school in Omaha.

After a stint in the Army, Charles returned to the Hoisington area and began a career in the oil industry.  He started as a roustabout and worked his way up to production supervisor.  He retired in 1986 from Mobil Oil after 38 years of service.

Charles met the woman who would become his wife at the local soda fountain in Hoisington.  He and Carolyn married October 6, 1957 and moved to Ellis County.  They would eventually increase the size of their family with the addition of their three sons, Chuck, Craig, and Clark.  In 1970 the family moved to Cement, Oklahoma, where Charles was on the city council for two terms and served as mayor for one term, obtaining much needed grants for the town's infrastructure.

During the boys' formative years, Charles and Carolyn would pack up their camper and travel from two to four weeks at a time and visit sites from coast to coast.  Charles' favorite place to visit was the Colorado Rockies.

Charles and Carolyn moved to Attica in 1978.  After retiring he kept himself busy running tractors on various farms, being a handyman for neighbors, fishing, and golfing.  He also was a talented wood worker and in his later years he carved War planes, with Carolyn painting them.  Charles was known to not waste words but was always willing to share advice and wisdom when asked.  He was highly respected by all who were fortunate to meet him.

Charles is survived by his brother, Harold from Pratt and a sister, Jan Parton of St. John; his three sons: Chuck, Clark, Craig, and Craig's wife Julie; as well as four grandchildren; Tom, Ally, Jake, and Sam, to whom he passed along a passion for history, especially WW2 and the Civil War.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Bernice and his brother, Warren from Derby, Kansas.  On August 14 of this year, Charles' wife Carolyn passed away.  Throughout their marriage it was very rare that they would be separated for more than a day.  So it was not surprising to friends and family that Charles would not want to be separated from Carolyn upon her death.

A joint remembrance for Charles and Carolyn will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the Attica Public Library.
