Obituary

Carolyn Sue Westerman was born on March 24, 1935 in Peru, Kansas to Carroll and Elaine (Heald) James.  This is where Sue was raised, and she attended school in the area.  She went on to Sedan High School, graduating with the class of 1953.  Shortly after graduating, the family moved to Pratt, Kansas.

Working at the local soda shop, Sue met Fredrick William Westerman.  The young couple were married on February 26, 1956 at the First Christian Church of Pratt and made their home on a farm southwest of Nashville, Kansas.  Sue was a farmer's wife, homemaker, and mother to their three children: Dena, Jana, and Shelly.

After the kids were raised, Sue started working as a cook at the nursing home in Medicine Lodge.  Later she went to work for Pro Stitch in Pratt.  Shortly before Fredrick's passing on August 3, 2012, they had moved to Pratt.  They were married for 56 years.  Two years after his passing, Sue moved to Anthony, Kansas.  Because of her declining health, she moved into Hilltop Manor Skilled Nursing in Cunningham, Kansas in December of 2019.

A long-time member of St. John Lutheran Church in Nashville, Sue was an active member of the St. John Dorcas Society.  Fredrick and Sue enjoyed doing puzzles.  She loved her dogs and was a very good baker, her pies were amazing.  But most of all Sue cared about and loved her family.  She spent numerous hours helping with her grandkids, even if it meant making a long trip to go care for them.

On October 24, 2021, Sue passed away at the care home at the age of 86.  She is preceded in death by her father, Carroll James; mother, Elaine (James) Davis; stepfather, Floyd Davis; husband, Fredrick; and sister, Joy Emery.  Sue is survived by her daughters: Dena Depenbusch and her husband, Keith of Harper, Kansas; Jana Green and her husband, Todd of Zenda, Kansas; and Shelly Holoubek and her husband, Doug of Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren: Mindy Deaver (Scott), Shane Depenbusch, Christy Reel (Vincent), Tyler Green, Zach Green (Megan), Jordan Smith (Amy), and Paityn Smith; six great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service is 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 29, 2021 at St. John Lutheran Church in Nashville, Kansas with Pastor Dennis Fangmeyer officiating.  Interment follows at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, south of Nashville.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church and can be sent in care of the funeral home.  Prairie Rose Funeral Homes, 613 W 14th St ~ Harper, Kansas  67058.
