Carolyn Yvonne (Underwood) Stewart was born on August 21, 1935 in rural Cherokee, Oklahoma to George Carol Underwood and Vera Edna (Hatfield) Underwood. The family lived near Driftwood, Oklahoma where Carolyn attended school. She graduated from Byron-Driftwood High School with the Class of 1953.
On July 10, 1954, Carolyn was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Everett Stewart, in Cherokee, Oklahoma. This union was blessed with three children: Sherri, Kathy and Randy. They moved to Sand Springs, Oklahoma in 1955 for Everett to begin his career with the C. R. Anthony Company. Carolyn was a homemaker and also worked alongside Everett in the store for many years as a cashier in Hutchinson, Kansas, Winfield, Kansas, and Garden City, Kansas before retiring in Harper, Kansas in April of 1995.
Carolyn was active in the Harper United Methodist Church, volunteering at the Econ Shop, serving as a communion steward, and assisting with church dinners. She enjoyed the many friendships made in Harper.
At the age of 85 years, 1 month, and 11 days, Carolyn passed away on October 2, 2020 at the Patterson Health Center. Preceding her in death are her parents, Carol and Vera Underwood and her husband, Everett. Left to cherish her memories are her children: Sherri (Brad) VanFossen of Olathe, Kansas, Kathy (David) Peck of Wellington, Kansas, and Randy (Norma) Stewart of Olathe, Kansas; grandchildren: Kerri (Sam) Siscoe, Kendra VanFossen, Sara Peck, Brian Peck, Aubrey (Coleson) Douglas, Allison Stewart, and Aaron Stewart; great-grandchildren: Matthew, Mikenna, and Grace; sister-in-law: Lois (Lee) Hofmeier of Harper, Kansas; other relatives and many friends.
Visitation is 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Funeral Service is 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at the Harper United Methodist Church with Pastor Brenda Kostner-Johnson officiating. The family requests that everyone practice social distancing. The service will be live streamed on the funeral homes' Facebook page. www.facebook.com/prairierosefuneralhomes. Interment will follow at the Harper Cemetery.
