Having lived a full and rich life, Carolyn Beth Huffman passed away at the age of 82 on August 14, 2018, in Attica, KS.

Carolyn was born in Hoisington, KS, March 5, 1936 to Henry and Florette Sellens, the tenth of eleven children.  After graduating from Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Nebraska she returned to Hoisington, Kansas and began working at the local pharmacy's soda fountain.  It was here that she met her future husband, Charles Huffman.  After their marriage in October 1957, they made their home in a remote area of Ellis County, and began raising their three sons, Chuck, Craig, and Clark, with Carolyn wholeheartedly devoting herself to Charles and the three boys.

Yearly family trips, with the boys piled in the camper, were made during the sixties and seventies.  Experiences such as digging up clams for a clambake in Maine, and teaching opportunities Mom took when visiting sites like the Sequoias in the Redwoods and the glaciers in Glacier National Park provide long lasting memories.

There is a vivid memory of Mom during a camping trip in Yellowstone.  While the family was sitting in the cab of the pickup, a large bear stood and peered into Carolyn's window.  She screeched and immediately began climbing over the boys, landing in Charlie's lap!

Charles' job necessitated a few moves, including to Russell, KS and Cement, OK.  In 1978, Carolyn and Charles made Attica their long term home.  Throughout the years Carolyn was actively involved in the town.  When she wasn't sewing for the community she could be found volunteering, such as visiting the older residents and calling a Bingo game at the Attica Annex or driving around the neighborhoods collecting recycling.

Carolyn had a passion for learning and was an avid book lover, which meant having a library card wherever she lived.  In Attica, she was an advocate for literacy and devoted many hours promoting the library and making it an inviting place for all ages.  She was also instrumental in computerizing the card catalog and check out system.

She is survived by her husband, three sons, Craig's wife Julie, and a sister, Bula Ernest, as well as her four grandchildren, Tom, Ally, Jake, and Sam, with whom she created many special memories.

In honor of Carolyn and Charles, the family will be having a come and go reception Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Attica Public Library.  Charles passed away August 22, 2018.
