Carol Ann Dean was born February 10, 1940 in Wichita, Kansas, youngest of six children born to Cecil and Gladys (Clark) Henderson. She was raised on a farm near McCune, Kansas where she attended McCune Schools.
On May 17, 1963, Carol was united in marriage with Joe Dean in Wichita, Kansas. They made their home in Wichita and were blessed with seven children.
Carol worked for Dillon's as a scanning coordinator for many years before retiring. In 1994, she and Joe moved to Anthony, Kansas, where Carol opened her antique shop, Rose Garden Antiques. In recent years, she assisted her daughter, Connie, with Little Lions Preschool, where all the children and parents only knew her as grandma.
Carol's greatest joy in life was her family! She was always focused on spending as much time as possible making memories with her husband, children, grandchildren and extended family. Her children were the light of her life until she began being blessed with grandchildren, whom quickly stole her heart. She was a sports fan, encouraging her children and grandchildren to participate, making sure to be at all of their events to cheer them on loudly!
Together Carol and Joe loved dancing, playing cards and antiquing. She enjoyed having flowers and always tended to her flower beds and yard. An animal lover, she always had a pet dog or two by her side and was willing to let her children have any type of pet: snakes, gerbils, pigeons, and anything else they could catch! The only pet she was never fond of was the pet spider one of the boys brought home, but she allowed them to keep it, just making it clear she would not be touching it!
Carol was ornery and all the family has their own special memories of her being a trickster with her many pranks she would pull on each of them.
On August 24, 2018, Carol passed away at her home in Anthony at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 14 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe in 1995; son, Larry Dean; great-grandchildren: Ellowyn and Christian; and siblings, Larry, John, Fran, Delmar and Donnie.
Carol will be deeply missed by her children: Michael Dean and wife, Sheri, Tammy Dean, David Dean and wife, Jane, Daniel Dean and wife, Heather, Connie Larcom and husband, David, and Debbie Clements and husband, Ric; 19 grandchildren: Bradleigh, Ashleigh, Katie, Kirsten, Jessica, Alicia, Joey, Derek, Megan, Danah, Kenzie, Heidi, Maudie, Kenneth, Stephanie, Marcus, Ryan, Bayleigh and Kayleigh; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Anthony, Kansas. Graveside service will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Cemetery in Wichita, Kansas.
