Obituary

Brinda Kay Nygaard was born December 9, 1968 in Wichita, Kansas, daughter of Terry and Susan (Sleeper) Messick.  She grew up in Anthony, graduating from Chaparral High School in 1987.  She attended the University of Kansas for one year, before moving to Wichita and attending Butler County Community College where she received her Associate's Degree.

While living in Wichita, Brinda met Brad Nygaard.  They married on July 18, 1995.  They welcomed two sons:  Connor in 1996 and Colin in 1999.

After the birth of her boys, Brinda furthered her education at Wichita State University graduating in 2004 with a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing.  Following graduation, she moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where she wrote her state boards and began her career as an RN.  In 2006, she moved back to Kansas, where she worked at several different healthcare facilities.  After leaving the healthcare industry she entertained herself with various part time jobs.

Brinda had a beautiful smile and was loved by many!  Her sons were her world and she made every effort to be the best mom to them.  She always enjoyed 80's music, tv dramas, Star Wars, and KU basketball.  A strong-minded woman, she never backed down from an argument, always speaking her mind with no fear.  She also had a soft spot, especially for baby kitties.

On August 13, 2021, Brinda passed away in Anthony, Kansas at the age of 52 years.  She was preceded in death by her father, Terry Messick and her son, Connor Nygaard.

Brinda will be deeply missed by her son, Colin Nygaard and companion, Shantelle; her mother, Susan Messick; brothers: Brian Messick and wife, Cynthia, and Kevin Messick and wife, Chrissy; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
