Billy Wayne Fly, 54, passed away on Friday, April 11th, 2025, at his home in Anthony, Kansas.

Billy was born on December 27th, 1970, in Guymon, Oklahoma, to Holly Fly and the late Margaret Truitt. Margaret later married Richard Nelson, who was a devoted stepfather. He was the oldest of three children and questionably the orneriest. Bill was his sister Tabby Kelman and his brother Rick Nelson's number-one fan, always there to offer his love, support, and encouragement.

Bill graduated from Attica High School in 1990 and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He received a Bachelor of Science (Aeronautical Science) graduating with Magna Cum Laude honors and went on to receive a Masters of Business Administration. His career was highly decorated. He was awarded 12 Outstanding Airman of the Airforce, Air Mobility Command NCO of the Year, Airlift Tanker Association Leadership Award, Van Cleave Young Leadership Award, 621st Air Mobility Support Group NCO of the Year, Honor Graduate; Airforce Advanced Composite School, Maintenance Professional of the Year, Honor Graduate Technical Training Course, and Honor Graduate Airforce 7-Level School. He also obtained numerous certifications while he served our country. He was a very passionate and proud veteran.

Billy married Monica Boden in 1991 and had two daughters, Heather Fly and Kelsey Fly.

Bill loved to read his Bible, pray for and help others, spend time with family, and always be the goofiest in the room. Spending time with his grandchildren, John Trae, Brazen, Kneumann, and Knico, was the joy of his life. You could find him shooting Nerf guns, playing zombies, watching the boys play sports, or cruising with his service dog, Zeus. He was devoted to helping others in any way he could and was known for his unwavering generosity. He was a loving and caring brother, father, and grandpa.

He will be dearly missed by his daughters, Heather Fly and Kelsey Fly, his grandchildren John Trae, Brazen, Kneumann, and Knico; his father, Holly Fly and wife, Jackie; his sister Tabby Kelman and family; his brother Rick Nelson and family; and other loving family members and dear friends. He touched the lives of many and will be remembered for his kindness and compassion.

Bill is preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Margaret and Richard Nelson, and his sister, Heather Dawn.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on April 17th, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Tunnels to Towers Foundation, which can be sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 602 East Main Street, Anthony, Kansas 67003.
