Billie (Bill) Lee Witters, 89, of Brandon, Mississippi, formerly of Anthony, Kansas, went to sleep in Jesus on November 1, 2021. Bill was born in Manchester, Oklahoma, on December 7, 1931, to Floyd and Lena Witters. He attended school in Waldron and Wichita, Kansas. In 1948, Bill joined the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic and served during the Korean War.

Following his honorable discharge, Bill worked as a mechanic, and he was most proud of his employment with The Boeing Company in Cape Canaveral, Florida. He received numerous accolades for his contributions to the success of Apollo 11, the mission that first landed humans on the moon in 1969. Bill went on to work for NASA in New Orleans, Louisiana, following the completion of the Apollo program.

Bill retired first to Greers Ferry, Arkansas, and later to Anthony, Kansas, where he enjoyed tinkering with his tractors, building things, raising ducks and pheasants, and feeding the deer that frequented his ponds. He enjoyed being visited by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, cooking out, fishing, and playing shuffleboard and horseshoes. He spent the last years of his life with his youngest daughter in Mississippi, helping around her horse farm. Bill was a Mason and a member of the Anthony, Kansas, American Legion Post 54.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Marjorie Starks and Earl Witters. He is survived by his daughters: Lori Weidner (Jim), Cynthia Howard (Brad), and Charissa Gentry; son: Sandy Witters (Betty); grandchildren: Jeri Lyn Rogge (Aaron), Jaime Sorensen (Doug), Christopher Hartwick, Stephanie Hartwick, Jessica Holifield (Dustin), Austin Davis (Lacy), Craig Witters, Julie Allison, Michelle Barnett, Jacob Witters, and Ean Weidner (Sydney); great-grandchildren: Liam Rogge, Ayden Rogge, Hayden-Leigh Holifield, Grant Sorensen, Hope Sorensen, Joseph Jaxon Barnett, Blake Sorensen, Brady Barnett, and Brody Barnett.

A private family funeral service will be held in Waldron, Kansas, with military honors by the McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard.
