Obituary

Beverly Lynn (Dunn) Martinez was born June 18, 1958 in Thomas, Oklahoma, the first child of James Wilson and Vera Lee (Fergason) Dunn. She was the first grandchild on both sides of the family and probably a little spoiled. She was joined later by her brothers, Larry and David. The family lived in Oklahoma City, Thomas, and Maysville Oklahoma, before moving to Anthony, Kansas in 1970 upon purchasing the Anthony Republican. She enjoyed spending time with her best friends Connie Cather, Debby Reber and Patty Garancosky. They had fun riding around Anthony, listening to music and talking about Beverly's crushes, Donny Osmond and Davy Jones.

She graduated from Chaparral High School in 1976 and worked at Larry's IGA (now Larry's Hometown Market) for several years.

She married Rick Shepard on June 26, 1976 in Anthony, Kansas. Rick and Beverly had two daughters – Andrea Lynn in 1979 and Erin Lee in 1983. Together they owned and operated Anthony True Value for many years. Beverly also did bookkeeping duties for the Anthony Republican for quite some time. Rick and Beverly later divorced.

In the late 1980s, Beverly began working for the US Postal Service, quickly becoming a supervisor at various locations in Wichita, as well as opening the Remote Encoding Center. She retired from the USPS in 2018. It was during her time with the USPS that she met Albert Martinez. Albert adored Beverly and they married November 3, 2003. Albert and Beverly enjoyed traveling together, with their favorite destinations being Las Vegas and New York City. They also loved traveling to family reunions held for many years at Oklahoma lakes.

Andrea and Erin each inherited many traits from their mother. Andrea takes great pride in taking charge in her professional life, and never lets a good coupon go to waste! Erin's organization and homemaking skills are just like Beverly's, and if you would ask them, neither of them are ever wrong!

Beverly's pride and joy were her grandchildren – Jaden Kyler, Jackson Thomas and Kinsley Noelle. She cheered loudly at Jaden's ballgames, took Jackson for many rides in the truck, and received many pedicures from Kinsley during their sleepovers. Beverly loved them fiercely and would do anything for them, at any time. And, boy, did they love their Nana! Together, they enjoyed taking frequent trips to Worlds of Fun and Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City, and to Silver Dollar City in Branson. We're not sure who had more fun – the kids or Nana!

After a courageous battle with cancer, Beverly died at her home on August 5, 2020. She spent the previous evening with many loved ones, which no doubt made her happiest.

Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Martinez, her father James Dunn, her sister-in-law Regina Dunn, her father-in-law J.P. Shepard, and her brother-in-law Terry Shepard.

She is survived by her daughters Andrea Shepard of Kansas City, Kansas and Erin (Philip) Newman of Haysville; her mother Vera Dunn of Anthony; her grandchildren Jaden, Jackson and Kinsley of Haysville; her brothers Larry (Bonnie) Dunn of Anthony and David (Jennifer) Dunn of Wichita; her stepchildren Greg (Heather) Martinez and Samantha (Jason) Baze of Wichita and William Martinez of Louisville, Kentucky; uncle, Mike (Kim) Fergason, Edmond OK.; aunts, Sue (Koehler) Thomas, Norman, OK.; Katy Potter, Elk City, OK.; Janice Potter, Scottsdale, AZ.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and many, many friends.

Graveside services for Beverly will be held on August 22nd at 11:00 AM, at Spring Grove Cemetery in Anthony. With the current health risks the family has chosen to do a traditional length funeral service at the cemetery so social distancing can be practiced.  Please feel free to bring a chair.
