Betty Coady Newton was born July 31, 1929 in Hays, Kansas, one of nine children born to Patrick and Sylvia (Fink) Coady. She graduated from Russell High School with the Class of 1947. She attended Kansas State University until 1950.

On June 5, 1950, Betty was united in marriage with Bob Howe Newton in Russell, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children: Bob Bradley "Brad," Scott and Lauri.

After Bob completed his Law Degree, the family moved to Anthony in 1956. Betty started her career as a legal secretary and bookkeeper. She later worked for the Clerk of the District Court and lastly as a teller at First National Bank.

Betty was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, Beta Sigma Phi, the Investment Club, and was very proud to be a part of the Historic Anthony Theatre Committee. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and watching K-State football and basketball games.

On February 20, 2018, Betty died at her home at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 20 days. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; son, Brad; parents; siblings: James Coady, Emmett Coady, John Coady, Richard Coady, Elsie Coady, Ruth Ruff, Julia Mermis and Ethel Thielen; niece, Patricia Morton; and nephews, Bob Mermis and Joe Thielen.

Betty will be deeply missed by her son, Scott Newton; daughter, Lauri Newton and husband, Vadim Bourenin; grandchildren: Alik, Vitaly, Anatoly and Anya Bourenin; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Grace Episcopal Church in Anthony with The Reverend Mary Hixson officiating. Private inurnment will be held at Forest Park Cemetery.

Friends may register 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Betty may be made to the Historic Anthony Theatre and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
