Obituary

Betty L. Morton, daughter of Amos and Viola (Cox) Barnes, was born February 10, 1939 near Augusta, Arkansas on the White River in a houseboat by a midwife.

On July 1, 1954, Betty met James H. Morton in Crescent, Oklahoma at the Post Office. James was driving his little convertible and Betty fell in love! Twelve days later on July 12, 1954, Betty and James were married. The first six months of their marriage was spent traveling playing donkey ball from Wyoming to Texas, before settling back in Crescent. Betty spent her life as a homemaker, raising her children and making her house a home. In 1978, they moved to Waldron, Kansas and in 1990, moved to Anthony.

After Betty became a grandmother, she continued her loving motherly ways, helping raise her grandchildren, being one of the most wonderful, dedicated, deluxe grandmothers a grandchild could ask for. She was never too busy for her grandchildren.

Betty was a member of the Revolution Fellowship Church. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, singing and playing games, especially dominos.

On October 25, 2017, Betty passed away at the Anthony Medical Center at the age of 78 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Lorraine, Amos, Earl and Dorothy; and two sons: Billy and Johnny.

Betty will be deeply missed by her husband, James; her children: Wesley Morton and wife, Meredith, Rickey Morton and wife, Pam, and Cathryn Morton Carpenter and husband, Ernie; 9 grandchildren: Jessica, Jeremy, Cathy, Jennifer, April, Damon, Jeffrey, Joni, Kevin; 38 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Cremation has taken place. Prairie Rose Funeral Homes, 602 E. Main St., Anthony, KS 67003, was in charge of cremation.

The family will be holding a memorial service 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the Revolution Fellowship Church. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be given to the church.
