Betty Louise Macon was born on August 28, 1929 in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Russell Elmer and Helen Valaria (Welch) Day.  She passed away at the age of 96 on May 16, 2026 at Attica Long Term Care in Attica, Kansas.

Betty had lots of interests and was very talented.  In 1942, Betty took up the accordion and played a solo in a music program.  She accomplished a lot in her lifetime.  She won at least two 1st place awards for her baking in the mid '60s.  Betty liked visiting with people.  She loved her pets, especially her cats.  When raising her children, Betty did a lot of roller skating.

In 1980, Betty went back to school at Garden City Junior College, graduating in 1982 with her Associates Degree in Arts.  She was a member of the Forensics Team.  Betty also painted the backdrops for the stage plays and acted in some of those plays.

Betty loved working with her flowers, both indoors and out.  She participated in a lot of shows, winning several awards.  A lifetime member of KAGC, she was President for a few years and for many years was a flower judge.  She wrote a lot of articles for the club magazine with short stories and poems.  Betty was a member of the Iris Society for many years where she traveled to nineteen states to be a judge at their events.  In 2010, Attica News did an article on Betty with pictures of her yard.  She had a large variety of iris and other flowers.  Betty was also a member of the Attica Art Guild, participating in several shows.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Russell and Helen Day; husbands, George Macon and Jack Langston; and two of her children, John Macon and Brenda Safe.  Betty is survived by her children, Michael Macon and wife, Karen of Winfield, Kansas and Marla Hestilow and husband, Ron of Moore, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

A private interment took place at the Attica Cemetery.
