Obituary

Benida "Sis" Fox was born February 11, 1934 on the family farm in Harper County, Kansas, daughter of Russell George "Buck" and Thelma (Hodson) Lear. She graduated from Anthony High School with the Class of 1952.

On November 1, 1955, Sis was united in marriage with Frank "Bus" Smith. This union was blessed with one daughter, Tammie. Sadly, Frank passed away.

On December 16, 1960, she married Jimmie Deane Fox in Harper, Kansas. This union was blessed with one son, Cary. They made their home on a farm by the Anthony Lake.

Sis and Jimmie farmed and raised cattle together. Sis would work the fields, feed (carrying 50 lb bags of feed up until just a few years ago), and gather eggs in the chicken house.

Although farming could keep them busy they both always had another job. Sis was a rural mail carrier for Anthony, worked at the grocery store in the meat department, as a taxi driver for the City of Anthony, at Rusty's Bait Shop and at various other jobs to ensure that she was kept busy.

Sis loved being busy! Aside from working she enjoyed bowling, crocheting and quilting. She was an excellent cook and her grandchildren looked forward to her fried chicken, goulash and chicken and noodles. After moving into Country Living, she stayed busy socializing and playing cards with her neighbors.

On January 3, 2018, Sis passed away at the Hospital District #6 Anthony Campus at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 20 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Frank and Jimmie; her son, Cary; and siblings: Jimmie Lear and Charlie Lear and infant sister, Charlotte.

Sis will be forever missed by her daughter, Tammie White; daughter-in-law, Lynn Fox; grandchildren: Preston Fox and companion, Sara Rohleder, Brandon Fox, Allison Fox, Dawson White, Michael Schrant and wife, Taylor, and Kaitlyn Schrant and companion, Channing Williams; great-grandchildren: Kaiden, Makinze and Austyn Fox; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony with Brandon Gerber officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Prairie Rose in Anthony.
