Armella Marie Schrant was born on May 15, 1931 in Ellis, Kansas to Edmund F. and Catherine (Stubert) Wasinger. She was one of nine children. Armella went as far as 6th grade in school but later earned her GED after raising her children.

On April 23, 1953, Armella was united in marriage with Vernon E. Schrant in Ellis at the historic St. Mary's Catholic Church. They were blessed with 9 children: Michael, Terry, Timothy, Deborah, Susan, Sandra, Patrick, Thomas, and Kelly. The family lived many years in Harper, Kansas. Armella and Vernon later moved to Anthony.

Becoming a certified nurse aid, Armella worked at the Harper Hospital and later at the nursing home. She enjoyed crocheting and playing her handheld video games, especially Skip-Bo. But nothing was dearer to her than her family. Armella was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

A devout Catholic, Armella was an active member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Harper and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Anthony, both now of the St. Joan of Arc Parish Community. She took pride in her service as a sacristan, where she prepared the altar for Mass and took care of the altar linens. Armella's faith was important to her. She attended Mass daily. When she was no longer able to attend, she looked forward to extra ordinary ministers, Bob and Jan Highfill or Father Peltzer to bring her holy communion. She would take of the communion while watching Mass on TV. Armella was also a dedicated member of the Altar Society.

Armella passed away at the Harper Hospital with family by her side on March 5, 2017 at the age of 85 years, 9 months, and 18 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund and Catherine; infant sister, Lennore; sisters, Helen Malinowsky and Margaret Rohr; brother, Edmund Wasinger Jr; grandson, Darrel Lee Schrant; and great-granddaughters, Addison and Allison Schrant.

Armella is survived by her husband, Vernon Schrant of the home; children: Michael Joseph Schrant and his wife, Adel of Sylvan Grove, Kansas, Terry Lee Schrant and his wife, Pamela of Wichita, Timothy Schrant and his wife, Lisa of Wichita, Deborah Ann Barnes and her husband, George of Goddard, Susan Marie Meyer and her husband, Brian of Winfield, Sandra Kaye Nixon and her husband, Jeffery of Wichita, Patrick L. Schrant and his wife, Kimberly of Harper, Thomas Edward Schrant and his wife, Tanja of Wichita, and Kelly Scott Schrant and his wife, Rebecca of Columbus, Nebraska; sisters: Alma Fondoble, Mary Ann Davis, Elizabeth Kitchen and her husband, David, and Catherine Bruce and her husband, Martin; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Friends may register and view on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rosary is 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 9th, both at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Harper, of the St. Joan of Arc Parish Community with Father Michael Peltzer officiating. Interment will follow at the Harper Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Patrick Catholic Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
