Arlen L. Gould was born November 30, 1937 at the Galloway Hospital in Anthony, Kansas, son of Hubert L. and Zona F. (Stigers) Gould. He graduated from Anthony High School with the Class of 1956. He attended Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas graduating with a Bachelor of Arts and Education.
After receiving his teaching degree, Arlen married Barbara Grenovich and was blessed with two children: Michael and Nancy.
Arlen began his career as a teacher and coach at Wellington, Kansas. He moved to Leavenworth, Kansas, where he taught social studies and history and coached at Patton Jr. High, until retiring. After retiring he continued to substitute teach.
On August 2, 1997, Arlen was united in marriage with Sheila Davis at the Yellowstone Bible Camp in Pray, Montana. They made their home in Winfield, Kansas. Sadly, Sheila passed away on February 12, 1999.
Arlen moved back home to Anthony where he was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing, reading western novels, afternoon coffee with his friends at Shepherd's, and Monday night pool games at John's.
On October 20, 2017, Arlen passed away at the Anthony Community Care Center at the age of 79 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Sheila.
Arlen will be deeply missed by his children: Michael Gould and Nancy Garza and husband, Rudy; his brother, Ron Gould and wife, Jenny; his niece, Wendi Gould; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the Church of Christ in Anthony with Mr. Eugene Farrar officiating. Burial will follow at the Mount Vernon Cemetery, near Winfield, Kansas.
Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony.
Memorials in memory of Arlen may be made to the Church of Christ and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
