Alan Leroy Allenbach was born February 15, 1952 in Hardtner, Kansas.  He was the third child born to Samuel L. and Dorothy L. (Sullivan) Allenbach.  Alan grew up in Attica, Kansas and graduated from Attica High School in May of 1970.  During his school years he worked for his dad at Attica Grain Elevator and on his Grandparents Sullivans' farm just east of Kiowa, Kansas.

After graduation, Alan attended Hutchinson Junior College.  He married Jackie Loveland in 1970.  To this union two daughters were born, Cheri Denice and Carri Ann.  They moved to Oklahoma City where Alan worked for Union Pacific Railroad and continued his education at Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma.  After several years of night school, he received a bachelor's degree in accounting and earned his CPA in 1990.

Alan began working for Kerr-McGee Oil Company in 1978 as a revenue accountant and was promoted to manager of the property tax division in 1989.   He retired from Kerr-McGee in 2004.  During his time at Kerr-McGee he met Polly Pilkington.  They were married on August 27, 1994.  With this union he received two more daughters, Melissa Kay and Jana Suzanne.  Throughout their life together they were blessed with being able to travel and managed to see all fifty states and four foreign countries.

Alan and Polly moved to Alan's hometown of Attica in September of 1999.  There the couple set up an accounting practice and on December 31, 2003, Alan became the president of Citizens Bank.  He continued in this capacity through several transitions until his death.  Alan also served on the Attica City Council for many years and was Mayor of Attica from May of 2013 until January of 2021 when he was diagnosed with cancer.  Alan also served on the Attica Long Term Care board, the Harper Community Foundation, the Harper County Economic Development board, the Interfaith Housing Foundation, and many other boards throughout his life in Attica.  He and Polly were also members of the Harper United Methodist Church for many years.

Alan loved his family without reservation.  His favorite times were when the whole family could get together at his house and he always found room for anyone who wanted to stay there.  He especially loved Attica Rodeo time when everyone would come from several states and just have a really good time.

Alan had a passion for wood working and could build most anything.  His favorite was building clocks and jewelry boxes.  His home is a testament to his skills.  He and Polly completely remodeled it inside and out.  Alan was blessed to have spent his last moments in the house that he loved so much.  A special thanks to his daughter Jana and granddaughter Payton for coming and staying with Alan and Polly the last two weeks of his life, making it possible for him to stay in his home as he so much wanted to do.  He went to his heavenly home on August, 14, 2023.

Alan is proceeded in death by his grandparents Roy and Olive Sullivan and P.J. and Laura Allenbach; sister Vickie Arlene; brother-in law Jim Becker; father Samuel L. Allenbach; and several dear relatives.  Those left to remember this amazing man are his wife Polly; mother Dorothy Allenbach; sister Linda Becker; daughters: Melissa Hunter, Cheri Long and husband Steven, Carrie Allenbach and friend Kevin Panter, Jana Chol and husband Lou; ten grandchildren: Alec Chol, Kayla Harkins and husband Mark, Ashley Heindenreich, Brittaney Long and fiancé Marlon Maldonado, Lela John and fiancé Robert Walker, Alexus Allenbach, Mason Chol and fiancé Jessica Scruggs, Katie Long, Calan Allenbach, and Payton Chol; ten great grandchildren; many other dear relatives and numerous wonderful friends and co-workers.

Memorial Service is 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 21, 2023 at the Harper United Methodist Church with Pastor Bruce Wilson officiating.  A private family inurnment will take place at a later time at the Attica Cemetery.
