Sheryl Lou Bellamy, daughter of Lawrence “Pete” and Mary Lou (Bradfield) Schon, was born December 28, 1951 at the Joslin Hospital in Harper, Kansas.
She grew up and graduated from the Argonia High School. Following High School she attended Philips University receiving her bachelor’s in Education with an emphasis in English and Library Science. As a lifelong learner, Sheryl would continue her education working to complete her Master’s Degree from Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
On September 21, 1974, Sheryl was united in marriage with John Bellamy in the Zion Lutheran Church at Argonia and this union was blessed with three sons: John Justin, Josh, and Beau.
The family made their home near Freeport and Sheryl began a forty year career as a Language Arts Instructor and Librarian. Education was her true passion, and working with kids became her life. She felt that for all students, education was the key to success. True to her own personality, she developed a fun, unique and creative learning environment that encouraged students to trust their own opinions while fostering confidence to realize their full potential. One of the things Sheryl enjoyed the most was watching her students grow and live their lives, as she would stay in contact with many of them throughout the years. She cared for them as much as they did her. Sheryl was baptized into the Zion Lutheran Church at a young age, and served on various Education committees and foundations throughout the years, past member of the Order of Eastern Star and was currently serving as president of the Lutheran Women’s Ministerial League.
Sheryl passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, July 22, 2012 at her home near Freeport at the age of 60 years, 6 months, and 24 days.
She was preceded in death by her father, Pete Schon, and one son, John Justin Bellamy. She will be deeply missed by her husband, John Bellamy of their home near Freeport; her son: Josh Bellamy and wife, Sarah, one grandson she loved with her whole heart, Owen Joel Bellamy of Burlington, OK; and son Beau Bellamy of Wichita, KS; her mother: Mary Lou Kolarik; one brother, John Schon and wife, Tommie, all of Argonia; one sister, Becky Coleman and husband, James of Danville, KS; step-brother: Marty Kolarik of Wichita; many other numerous friends, family, and countless former students.
Memorial services for Sheryl will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday July 26, 2012 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Argonia, Kansas. Pastor John Schlikeau will be officiating. Inurnment will be held at the Freeport Cemetery, Freeport, Kansas. Memorials in memory of Sheryl may be given to the Zion Lutheran Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
