Jean Smith Cleveland was born January 19, 1930 in North Vernon, Indiana. She moved to Anthony and became the daughter of John and Cora (McMullin) Smith.
On June 25, 1950, Jean was united in marriage with Maurice Cleveland at the Christian Church in Anthony. They moved to Medicine Lodge where they were blessed with two children: Martin and Jan.
In her early years in Anthony, Jean worked for Martin and Max Hall, H.K. Wood Music Company and Irwin Potter. In 1964, the family moved to Amarillo, Texas where Jean began working for the Globe News Credit Union where she worked her way to Vice President before retiring.
Jean was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She lived a life of service and was an excellent caretaker.
On July 18, 2012, Jean passed away at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 29 days. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ruth Smith.
Jean will be deeply missed by her husband of 62 years, Maurice, of Amarillo; her son, Martin Cleveland and wife, Rachel of Jackson, Tennessee; her daughter, Jan Cleveland of Denver, Colorado; 4 grandchildren: Michael, Daniel, Cecilia and Sophia; sisters: Margaret Olds and Eileen Cornett, both of North Vernon, Indiana; brothers: Jesse Aeschbecker of Oroville, California and Bud Aeschbecker of North Vernon, Indiana; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services will be held 9:00 a.m. Saturday at Spring Grove Cemetery, west of Anthony, with Pastor John Schnelle officiating.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday at Prairie Rose in Anthony.
Memorials in memory of Jean may be made to the Anthony Christian Church or to a Charity of the Donor's Choice, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
