Margaret Darleen Hawkins was born July 6, 1924 in Attica, Kansas. She was one of seven children born to James Albert and Flossie Estella Swafford) Kaup. She passed away Friday, June 22, 2012 in the Harper Hospital at the age of 88 years, 11 months, and 16 days.

On July 21, 1945, Darleen, as she was known to family and friends, was united in marriage with Ottus Hawkins in Tacoma, Washington and to this union three children were born: Gloria, Michael, and Gary. The family made their home in Harper where Darleen enjoyed raising her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers: Hershel, Roy, Merl and Von; sister, Mary Violet Countryman; and one granddaughter, Michelle Crain.

Darleen will be deeply missed by her daughter, Gloria Tracy and husband, Ronald, of Harper; sons: Michael of Harper and Gary of North Hollywood, California; sister, Dorothy Lane of Augusta; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at the Harper Cemetery with Pastor Ed Hughlett officiating.

Visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Harper.

Memorials in memory of Darleen may be given to the American Leukemia Society and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
